Pothos Tips

How to propagate Pothos (aka: devils ivy)

Pothos are a popular plant for any home or office. They thrive in natural or artificial light and if simply watered they can grow as a vine forever! I personally prefer a full pothos and only allow trailing vines sparingly. Propagating the additional growth allows me to grow new plants to share. See below for simple steps to either add fullness to the crown of your Pothos or start new plants:

Begin by looking for the nodes (see photo below). This is basically an air root... waiting for you to place it in water so it can go off on its own (think of a teenager wanting their first car). Simply clip at an angle below the node, place in a jar of warm water and a few weeks later you can either add the offspring to the original plant to make it look fuller, or start a new plant to share. To prevent decay and unwanted bacteria, be certain to remove any leaves from the standing water. Let it be known oxygen disolves in standing water over time, it is best to empty and replace the water weekly. Feel free to send questions, comments or photos of your pothos!
